I have never been a huge fan of science fiction, despite coming from a family of Star Trek fans. And even though I read Douglas Adams in high school (and liked it), I was never too interested in the genre. Things that are set in space, I would say, are not worth my time. Please, I mean, set in space. What shameless buffoonery. It’s right up there with a magical baseball field.
Nonetheless, thanks to a crew of Zemblan friends, I found myself hooked on Battlestar Galactica. After a false start (I do not recommend trying to start watching the show in the middle of a season — or in the middle of anything, really), we decided to get the DVDs and watch the entire show from the miniseries through the end of Season 3. We finished up sometime in June of last year and have been on tenterhooks ever since, just waiting to find out WHAT THE FUCKING HELL HAPPENS NEXT.
As you no doubt know already (if this show is on your radar at all), it comes back to SciFi Network this Friday, and not a day too soon. (Incidentally, that day is also my friend’s birthday — awesome! And Happy birthday!)
If you haven’t seen this show, I can highly recommend it. If you feel brave enough to jump into Season 4 without having seen the previous seasons, the recap video described here can get you started. Otherwise, why not start by netflixing that miniseries? If you get addicted like we did, SciFi will probably be re-running Season 4 by the time you get there. Of course, you could also take this as an excuse to sit home all day in your pajamas, losing yourself in the marathon reruns of the show that are taking place this week. Go ahead, call in sick. Or better yet, call in Cylon.
